| Harsh Punishment | The justice of the Empire is harsh and swift, and not without its pitfalls. Those towns outside the reach of major cities arbitrate their own crimes, oftentimes calling for a hanging judge when proof of a criminal's guilt is overwhelming. Unfortunately for the accused, this system rarely works in their favor. The different and the disliked are the ones who are inevitably blamed when a child goes missing, or a cow fails to give milk. Even with undeniable proof of innocence, their protestations all too often fall upon deaf ears, for there is no more permanent method of ending a dispute than seeing the other party put to death. |
