"Hold you ground," said the Magus calmly. The dozen or so zealots and warriors gathered behind him obeyed, but held their weapons ready.

With a road, the largest of the Beastmen lunged toward the Magus. He was a muscle-bound brute with the head of a black bull, the long horns ringed in gold bands.

With a yell, the Magus hurled a great, blinding jet of bright blue fire toward the Minotaur. The beast was silenced instantly, its smoldering corpse landing on the ground with a loud thud.

The other Beastmen skidded to a stop, their rage replaced with awe.

Arcane fire swirling in his palm, the Magus spoke with a commanding tone.

"Warriors of the Bloodrush clan! I am Harkan the Sightless, and you will obey me or perish!"

One by one, the Beastmen knelt in deference.

"Good. Your task is this: guard the entrance to the Platinum Tower. Slay any who seek to approach it!"

The creatures stood and raised their weapons in salute, roaring loudly to voice their approval of their new master.
